“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dear Visitor,
I have always seen that in the face of challenges the natural human response is to rise to the occasion and overcome all trials. This stems from my years of involvement in human rights and political activism in my beloved country of Cuba. I came to the great City of New York, specifically the lower west side, in the 1960s; a time when civil rights, healthcare inequality, and senior citizen welfare faced many adversities. Hence, I founded Lower West Side Household Services Corporation in 1969, which at the time, assisted seniors and low income families and individuals to access care and much needed employment opportunities. Since its inception, it has grown to provide home health care services to residents of all five boroughs, Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Duchess Counties.
As a result of an increasing number of children and parents with special needs, individuals and their collaterals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS, and lack of services, I founded Dennelisse-LHCSA Corporation in 1987. It was clear that without culturally competent case management and care coordination services, the success of these constituents would not progress. Our diverse staff in both companies is truly reflective of our core principles: meet each client where they are; with respect, understanding, and compassion. Dennelisse-LHCSA has served over 3,500 individuals since its inception and has assisted to empower those who face social and healthcare disparities. We have a proven track record to ensure that self-sufficiency does not only encompass healthcare provision, but a clear path to employment and stability. In doing so, the Dennelisse-LHCSA created a career path educational training school that offers a NYS Department of Education approved paraprofessional training program. It is true that without knowledge and an education, the path to self-sufficiency is an uphill battle.
The Dennelisse-LHCSA’s success is due to its continuous transformation and learning of the changing healthcare and employment environment we face today. We have built a strong, loyal and competent team from the Board of Directors to employees, contractors and clients. We acknowledge that each and every one has played a crucial role in our successful years of services. Our motto is “Where Healthcare Matters and Support Begins.”
Regards,
Luis Pons
