Lower West Side Household Services and the Dennelisse Corp were out in the community on Saturday, August 26th 2017 for the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.’s Annual Back to School Literacy and Health Fair put on in conjunction with Montefiore Medical Center and Healthfirst. The 6th annual health fair was held from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Pablo Casals Middle School 181, located at 800 Baychester Avenue, Bronx NY 10475 at the Co-op City Education Campus. Lower West Side and Dennelisse joined in support the event’s mission to equip the community with the health and education resources they need for another healthy school year.
Students and their families met with the Lower West Side and Dennelisse team to get information on our programs that help people struggling with their health to get well and live well. Jorge, Julia, Doris, Christina, Anthony, Savannah and Nestor were all on the scene to help kids load up their new backpacks with pencils and notebooks for the school year. Event sponsors Montefiore Medical Center, Healthfirst, MetroPCS and FreshDirect donated hundreds of backpacks that were distributed for free to members of the community and Lower West Side and Dennelisse were there to help fill those back packs with essential school supplies.
“Education and health are so closely related in determining a child’s success. It’s crucial this time of year to recommit ourselves to ensuring that children have the resources they need to learn and grow…” said Nestor Sanchez, Director of Business Development at Dennelisse. “…we determine the future of our community through what we do for the community now”.
The event was hosted by 92.3 AMP Radio personality and host Shoboy, and featured music and games to help the event connect with children. There were a number of performers there as well using music made in the community to promote a positive message. The artists spoke to the children saying that they have the capability to reach their potential despite the challenges they face and the negative influences present in the community. Get Focused, a physical fitness and personal training company, provided fitness demonstrations to promote active lifestyles and daily exercise. FreshDirect representatives also talked to event visitors about healthy eating.
Dennelisse and Lower West Side are happy to have been able to partner with organizations in our community again this year to make the Back to School Event another big success. This makes the third year that Dennelisse and Lower West Side have worked with the Bronx Borough President’s office to bring the event to life. Dennelisse and Lower West Side thank Ruben Diaz Jr. And the Bronx Borough President’s office for giving us this opportunity to make a difference and promote literacy and health services to Bronx families. Gratitude is also due to the Lower West Side and Dennelisse administrators for donating the school supplies that were distributed to those in need. We also commend and acknowledge the Lower West Side and Dennelisse staff that helped behind the scenes to make this event a success. On behalf of Lower West Side and Dennelisse, we wish everyone a healthy and successful school year!
